1-cent sales tax measure for November ballot
The council is asking voters to approve a permanent 1-cent general sales tax that would raise about $18 million a year for police, fire, roads, parks and other services. Critics want a sunset date, independent oversight, and dedicated funding for housing, youth programs and tenant protections. Voters decide November 3.
FY 2026-27 city budget
The proposed budget is $446.1 million with a $1.3 million general fund gap. Big risks: the SAFER grant funding 24 firefighters expires in 2027, and street maintenance stays underfunded. Advocates want dollars for tenant relocation, eviction defense, and South Merced projects.
